Eleven Things Every Witch Should Know.

{lang: 'en-GB'}

1. Magic is what happens when you open yourself to the Divine. All real magic is
a manifestation of the Divine – it is how you co-create reality with deity.

2. The Divine is within you and is everywhere present in the natural world. And
everything is interconnected by this sacred energy.

3. Wicca is not about information — it’s about transformation, so practice,
practice, practice — and do it as much as possible in Nature! Witchcraft
enables you to commune with divinity and to manifest your destiny, your desires
and your highest and sacred self.

4. The real ethics of how Witches live and practice magic are simple: Witches
live in a sacred manner because we live in a sacred world. We therefore treat
all of life with reverence and respect.

5. Because all magic flows from our connection to the Sacred, our lives and our
magic, must be guided by the sacred nature of the energy with which we work.

6. The energy Witches work with is not neutral — it is divine love.

7. Magic often works in unexpected way because it is not a mechanical process,
and the Universe is not a machine. You are living and making magic within a
divine, organic, living reality.

8. Witches don’t command and control — they commune and co-create.

9. The real secret of successful spellcasting, as with all of magic, is your
connection to the Divine power that dwells within you, and surrounds you. And
spells do work so be careful what you ask for!

10. Nature makes the Divine tangible. By working, living, and practicing your
magic in harmony with Nature, you are in harmony with the Divine.

11. The ultimate teacher is the God/Goddess inside you and in the world of
Nature all around you.

Merry Meet featuring A Single Parent’s Prayer also Thought for the day.

Merry Meet

In my quest to bring to you information relating to wicca and other spiritual paths I find the need to place a new category called PRAYER on my home page. In this category you will find prayers from many people, I feel it would be totally wrong of me to just place on my website prayers relating to wicca. The majority of people pray and have their own God/Gods/Goddess thus it is my hope to bring to you a place where you can post your own ideas on the subject and relate with others.

The Prayer category will be added to on a regular basis as will other categories on my site blessed Be.

A Single Parent’s Prayer.

Lord, grant me  Time enough to do all the chores, join in the games, help with the lessons, and say the night prayers, and still have a few moments left over for me.

Energy enough to be bread-baker and breadwinner, knee-patcher and peacemaker, ballplayer and bill juggler.

Hands enough to wipe away the tears, to reach out when I’m needed, to hug and to hold, to tickle and touch.

Heart enough to share and to care, to listen and to understand, and to make a loving home for my family.

Thought For The Day:

Craft is the handprint of all culture.

Inverted Pentagram: Associated only recently, since the 19th Century, with Satanists and known as the Devil’s Goat, this symbol is in fact far older and can be found in ancient Masonic Temples. In Wicca, it is a symbol of the 2nd Degree and magickally it represents the Dog Star Sirius and can be used to channel higher energy into material manifestation.

If Bill Gates wrote a book on Wicca and Remember the Alamo.

{lang: 'en-GB'}

If Bill Gates wrote a book on Wicca.

1. The book would be called Windows to the Goddess.

2. Iconology was be a major chapter.

3. A revised editon would be released approximately every 6 months without which your magic would no longer work.

4. Your broom would crash at least once a week.

5. Cauldrons would be called recycle bins.

6. A book of shadows would be called the folder of magic.

7. A free high speed connection spell would come with ever book.

8. Ever now and then, your circle would collapse and you would have to perform the re-boot ritual to get it working.

9. If you used the more powerful MagicNT rituals, the above would happen to all circles within a 5 mile radius.

10. At least once a month, you would have to re-install your spells into your folder of magic.

11. You would have to use a start ritual to exit your circle. (and cake and wine would only be available after a sign from the Goddess saying it was safe to do so).

Remember the Alamo.

An Englishman, Frenchman, Mexican, and Texan were flying across country on a small plane when the pilot comes on the loud speaker and says ” We’re having mechanical problems and the only way we can make it to the next airport is for 3 of you to open the door and jump, at least one of you can survive”.

The four open the door and look out below.

The Englishman takes a deep breath and hollers “God Save The Queen” and jumps.

The Frenchman gets really inspired and hollers “Viva La France” and he also jumps.

This really pumps up the Texan so he hollers “Remember the Alamo” and he grabs the Mexican and throws him out of the plane.

The Eightfold Path of Wicca (Version II).

{lang: 'en-GB'}

The ‘Eight-Fold Path’ is recognized in many esoteric paths with certain variations. They constitute the many ways of raising energy that are incorporated into the ritual magick performed by a witch, and represent the eight-spoked wheel upon which Wicca turns.

01 Mental Discipline: Powerful energies can be raised through the mind using meditation and trance. Visualization can help apply the pure will of the mind over matter. By developing mental abilities, Wiccans tap into energies that have always been available but of which they may not have been aware. Visualization is one of the most important aspects of magical work. By stimulating all five senses, Wiccans can empower the art of visualization to raise energy and transform it to new heights. Visualizations should be practiced regularly. Mental discipline is also gained through fasting over short periods of time, and physical discipline. Ritual knowledge is also a vital aspect of mental discipline. Knowledge helps provide the keys needed to become attuned to the practitioner’s higher selves and beyond. Knowledge and understanding is also required to work successfully with enchantments, spells, symbols and charms.
02 The Power of Speech: Speech is used in ritual to help strengthen the visualization and thereby increase the power of will. Chants can help focus the mind and raise energy by themselves by penetrating the veil between the worlds. When using speech during a ritual, speak clearly, with feeling and confidence.
03 The Controlled Use of Drugs: The controlled use of drugs is something that seems to have played a part in most of the nature-based religions from all over the planet. Shamans from many cultures used hallucinogens to focus the mind and to aid the process of shape-shifting. Cannabis has also been used for centuries in magical work, as have several other natural substances readily available including magick mushrooms. Wine, beer, incense, essential oils and herbs are also considered drugs in this definition (incense stimulates the olfactory glands in the nose). I cannot and do not advocate the use of, or experimentation with, any illegal or illicit substance.
04 Dance: Dance is another way of raising energy, which is particularly useful in a circle situation. There are many dances that have become associated with the particular rites within Wicca. Dances often start slowly and build up tempo to a crescendo. This is associated with raising the Cone of Power especially in full Circle work.
05 Offerings to the Gods: In the past, many blood offerings were presented to the gods as sacrifices. Again, I cannot and do not advocate continuing this practice, and it is not generally accepted by modern witchcraft. Today, it is common to offer bread, wine, incense and crystals. Through offerings, practitioners give back something of value to the gods to thank them for what they have provided. Offerings often consist of something that have personal value to the giver and are offered as a symbolic sacrifice to show respect, and to strengthen the connection with the goddesses, the gods and nature spirits.
06 The Scourge/ Purification: The scourge is used in some forms of Wicca to beat energy into an object or to purify an individual through mildly inflicted pain. Flagellation is a common form of ritual purification found in many cultures and religions, including a long past-history in Catholicism. Once again, I cannot and do not advocate or condone any form of physical scourging of self or others. However, ritual purification of the body is important. The body and its aura should be cleansed prior to performing any magick rite. Salt and incense are commonly used to symbolically cleanse the aura, as well as the area where magick will be performed. Purification prior to working with the God and Goddess is a matter of respect for the practitioner and towards deity.
07 Sex: The sexual act of a man and a woman is regarded as the sacred merging of the two great powers of masculine and feminine. It can be a most powerful way of raising energy within a ritual situation when performed with reverence and focus. The sexual act stimulates energy to be raised from the base chakra to the crown. When this is done with partners of the opposite gender then (because their chakras work in harmony) the energy raised is balanced between male and female as with the God and Goddess. It is entirely possible to raise energies in a similar way without sexual intercourse, for those who have experience and are reasonably adept, but actual intercourse (or the sexual act between those of the same gender) who understand what is to be achieved, can be a powerful magickal act.
08 Psychic Development: Psychic development, dream control and other astral work is something that should develop through the training of a Wiccan if such abilities are not already developed before they begin to study. When working ritual magick, a practitioner is working between the worlds with the gods, the goddesses, and spirits of the elemental planes, etc. It is therefore necessary to develop skills to become adept at working with these entities.

Wicca Tools Of Wicca.

{lang: 'en-GB'}

Find out more about The Tools Of Wicca

There are four basic tools common to all traditions of Wicca. These include: the Athame, the Wand, the Cup or Chalice and Pentacle or Stone. Each corresponds to a different element and can be used in casting the circle to call the different quarters. These are an extension of the practitioner and will help to channel and amplify the magick for spell work and rituals. The important thing to always remember when obtaining your magickal tools is that you can still do magick without them and not to be in any great rush to go out and get them right away. Ultimately in the end, they’re a nice added touch, all the power we need to do magick is within ourselves.

Some traditions stress creating your own tools as it’s a way of imbueing one’s own energy with the tool to better attune it to yourself. If you choose to purchase your tools, remember that if you have to haggle on prices or can’t afford it, it probably isn’t the best tool. As tools, they have no more power then what is given to them.

Other things about the Wiccan Tools, as is part of proper ettiquete, is never borrow or use another’s tools as it’s their energy in the tool and not your own. Nor is it proper ettiquete to touch another Witch’s tools without permission. The same goes for alter space. Doing so is considered an iinvasion of privacy. Plus that even simply touching the tools leaves imprints and impression on the tools, that if left uncleansed, whether positive or negative, have an impact and effect on future magickal workings.

The Athame

The athame is a ceremonial knife that corresponds to the element of fire. It’s also a male symbol and energy. Often it’s a black-handled knife that may or maynot have magickal symbols or names inscribed on it.

It is used for:
* Mixing salt, water or potions
* Inscribing the Circle
* Charging, consecrating or empowering amulets and talismens
* Drawing lines
* Discrimination and setting limits
* Making choices

The Wand

The wand is a very familiar tool of magick that corresponds to the element of air and female is another symbol of male energy. Should you choose to make your wand, a suggested length is from the crook of the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. Do research the properties of the particular wood you plan to take your wand from. And when cutting from a live tree, do remember you are taking a piece of a Living Being. Explain to the tree why and what purpose you are taking the branch in making the wand to get it’s permission. Remember too to leave an offering in return such as a feather or stone which is acceptable.

The wand is a symbolic phallus, and is utilized by the Witch for moving energy in a wide or disbursed area. The wood from which a wand is made varies according to culture and tradition. In Devonshire, the local tradition is for a Witch to carry a Black Rod which is made from blackthorn. The Welsh Gwyddon uses a length of scarlet rowan called the Hudlath, or Rod of Enchantment. According to Welsh tradition, wands were used as a test of chastity. The Mabinogian relates one tale in which the wand of Math is used to determine whether or not Arianrhod had remained a virgin. However, in Scotland the term Bune Wand was given to a forked wand or staff. It referred to a Witch’s spirit flight upon these riding poles. In Germany, the word gabelreiterinnen was used to describe a Witch and translated as “pitchfork-rider.” In some traditions, the ends of these poles are carved to represent an erect phallus which is then concealed by being bound with ash and birch twigs. In this form, the wand also becomes the besom or broom which is so often associated with the stereotypical witch. Many Witches employ the use of a broom in a ritual referred to as the Naked Broom which involves the placing of a curse. At Shrovetide in Westphalia, Germany, houses are ritually swept with a white broom which is then hung over the door of the cow-house.

It is used for:
* Casting Circles
* Channeling Energy
* Inviting and Controlling Entities
* Manifestation of will (spirit into matter, idea into reality, ect)

The Cup

The Cup or Chalice is symbolic of the womb of the Goddess, corresponding to the element of water, female energy and fertility. It is believed that to drink from the cup is to drink of life; similar to the mythical Holy Grail of Christian mythos and King Arthur. Often made of glass, metal or wood. If you get a metal Chalice made of brass or pewter, make sure it is lined with Silver as there is a poisonous dangerous reaction to the metals with wine.

It is used for:
* Mixing salt and water
* Mixing potions
* Invoking the power to be human, to be real, to be whole
* Conjuring emotions
* Nurturing
* Presenting offerings and pouring out libations
* Drinking ritual wine

The Pentacle

The Pentacle is a five point star that corresponds to the element of earth and female energy. In place of the pentacle, a stone may be used as well. When pointed upwards, the pentacle is positive. When pointed downwards, the pentacle is negative and is used in banishing and binding. It’s usually placed in the center of the alter and used in magickal workings. The pentacle is also very commonly seen and used in protection hung over windows and doorways.

The five points of the pentacle represent:
* Brith, initiation, consummation, repose; death
* Love, wisdom, knowledge, law, power
* Spirit, Air, Water, Earth and Fire.

Karma.

{lang: 'en-GB'}

Many believe that is karma known only from eastern philosophy, but for centuries karma has been and remains an important part of occult thought of the west. For many animals and witches of Wicca and karma inseparable. The Law of Karma said that our position in this is our state and deeds in the past. All of our successes and failures is a result of our own affairs and thoughts.

The Law of Karma is global and comprehensive. Try to answer this question : Why does someone born Prince of Monaco, and one a native reindeer?

If everyone would be given free choice, how many takers would be willing to be born in the tundra? It can be assumed that there is a law that is stronger than human desires and capabilities, which determine who originate and where to live. All this is due to the law of Karma. According to the definition of occult karma means “cause and effect”. We are creating our lives. This means that we are and will always be responsible for all our acts and thoughts. We do things that ultimately decide for good or bad.

To accept the concept of karma, you need to put the bias that everything bad is from hell. Such beliefs prevent us realize that things can be different, that our lives can be changed for the better. In terms of karma, randomness and coincidence is not the case, people do not come to us by chance, any act is a payoff in the tripling effect. In other words, for all the good and bad that we made, we get full.

161 Laws.

{lang: 'en-GB'}

Author unknown. Based on Gerald Gardner’s Old Laws

The content here is identical to that in the Old Laws. It is included here because it is a little easier to read, and because this is the format generally found on the Internet.

This appears to be the work of someone who felt a little lonely without their Ten Commandments, and so broke the Old Laws down into a list. The breakdown appears arbitrary. Law #41, for instance, reads ” But if they will not agree with their Brothers, or if they say,” That’s not a rule or even advice. For that matter, it’s not even a sentence.

Read my commentary on the Old Laws for more important information.

The Law was made and ordained of old.
The Law was made for the Wicca, to advise and help in their troubles.
The Wicca should give due worship to the gods and obey their will, which they ordain, for it was made for the good of Wicca as the worship of the Wicca is good for the gods. For the gods love the brethren of Wicca.
As a man loveth a woman by mastering her,
So should the Wicca love the gods by being mastered by them.
And it is necessary that the Circle which is the temple of the gods, should be truly cast and purified. And that it may be a fit place for the gods to enter.
And the Wicca shall be properly prepared and purified to enter into the presence of the gods.
With love and worship in their hearts, they shall raise power from their bodies to give power to the gods.
As has been taught of old.
For in this way only may men have communion with the gods, for the gods cannot help man without the help of man.

High Priestess and High Priest

And the High Priestess shall rule her coven as the representative of the Goddess.
And the High Priest shall support her as the representative of the God.
And the High Priestess shall choose whom she will, be he of sufficient rank, to be her High Priest.
For, as the God Himself kissed Her feet in the five-fold salute, laying His power at the feet of the Goddess because of Her youth and beauty, Her sweetness and kindness, Her wisdom and justice, Her humility and generosity,
So He resigned all His power to Her.
But the High Priestess should ever mind that the power comes from Him.
It is only lent, to be used wisely and justly.
And the greatest virtue of a High Priestess be that she recognize that youth is necessary to the representative of the Goddess.
So she will gracefully retire in favour of a younger woman should the Coven so decide in council.
For a true High Priestess realizes that gracefully surrendering pride of place is one of the greatest virtues.
And that thereby she will return to that pride of place in another life, with greater power and beauty.

Security

In the old days, when witchdom extended far, we were free an worshipped in all the greater temples.
But in these unhappy times we must celebrate our sacred mysteries in secret.
So be it ordained that none but the Wicca may see our mysteries, for our enemies are many and torture loosens the tongue of man.
So be it ordained that no Coven shall know where the next Coven bide.
Or who its members be, save only the Priest and Priestess and messenger.
And there shall be no communication between them, save by the messenger of the gods, or the summoner.
And only if it be safe may the Covens meet in some safe place for the great festivals.
And while there, none shall say whence they came nor give their true names.
To this end, that if any be tortured, in their agony, they may not tell if they do not know.
So be it ordained that no one shall tell anyone not of the craft who be of the Wicca, nor give any names or where they bide, or in any way tell anything which can betray any of us to our foes.
Nor may he tell where the Covendom be.
Or the Covenstead.
Or where the meetings be.
And if any break these Laws, even under torture, THE CURSE OF THE GODDESS SHALL BE UPON THEM, so they may never be reborn on earth and may remain where they belong, in the hell of the Christians.

Disputes

Let each High Priestess govern her Coven with justice and love, with the help and advice of the High Priest and the Elders, always heeding the advice of the Messenger of the Gods if he cometh.
She will heed all complaints of all Brothers and strive to settle all differences among them.
But it must be recognized that there will always be people who will ever strive to force others to do as they will.
These are not necessarily evil.
And they oft have good ideas and such ideas should be talked over in council.
But if they will not agree with their Brothers, or if they say,
“I will not work under this High Priestess,”
It hath ever been the Old Law to be convenient to the Brethren and to avoid disputes.

New Covens

Any of the third may claim to found a new Coven because they live over a league away from the Covenstead or are about to do so.
Anyone living within the Covendom and wishing to form a new Coven, shall tell the Elders of their intention, and on the instant avoid their dwelling and remove to the new Covendom.
Members of the old Coven may join the new one when it is formed. But if they do, they must utterly avoid the old Coven.
The Elders of the new and old Covens should meet in peace and brotherly love to decide the new boundaries.
Those of the craft who dwell outside both Covendoms may join either but not both.
Though all may, if the Elders agree, meet for the great festivals if it be truly in peace and brotherly love,
But splitting the Coven often means strife, so for this reason these Laws were made of old and may the CURSE OF THE GODDESS BE ON ANY WHO DISREGARD THEM. So be it ordained.

Grimoire

If you would keep a book, let it be in your own hand of write. Let brothers and sisters copy what they will, but never let the book out of your hands, and never keep the writings of another.
For if it be found in their hand of write, they may be taken and arraigned.
Let each guard his own writings and destroy them whenever danger threatens.
Learn as much as you may by heart and, when danger is past, rewrite your book, an it be safe.
For this reason, if any die, destroy their book an they have not been able to.
For, an it be found, ’tis clear proof against them.
And our oppressors know well “Ye may not be a witch alone”.
So all their kin and friends be in danger of torture,
So destroy everything not necessary.
If your book be found on you, ’tis clear proof against you alone, you may be arraigned.

Persecutions

Keep all thoughts of the craft from your mind.
If the torture be too great to bear, say “I will confess. I cannot bear this torture. What do you want me to say?”
If they try to make you speak of the Brotherhood, do not.
But if they try to make you speak of impossibilities such as flying through the air, consorting with a Christian devil or sacrificing children, or eating men’s flesh,
To obtain relief from torture say “I had an evil dream, I was beside myself, I was crazed.”
Not all magistrates are bad, if there be an excuse, they may show mercy.
If you have confessed aught, deny it afterwards, say you babbled under torture, say you knew not what you said.
If you are condemned, fear not.
The Brotherhood is powerful and will help you to escape if you stand steadfast, but if you betray aught there is no hope for you in this life or in that to come.
Be sure, if steadfast you go to the pyre, drugs will reach you, you will feel naught. You go to death and what lies beyond, the ecstasy of the goddess.

Tools

To avoid discovery, let the working tools be as ordinary things that any may have in their houses.
Let the pentacles be of wax so that they may be broken at once or melted.
Have no sword unless your rank allows it.
Have no names or signs on anything.
Write the names and signs on them in ink before consecrating them and wash it off immediately afterwards.
Let the colours of the hilts tell which is which.
Do not engrave them lest they cause discovery.

Conduct

Ever remember ye are the hidden children of the Goddess so never do anything to disgrace them or Her.
Never boast, never threaten, never say you would wish ill of anyone.
If any person not in the Circle, speak of the craft, say, “Speak not to me of such, it frightens me, ’tis evil luck to speak of it.”
For this reason, the Christians have their spies everywhere. These speak as if they were well affected to us, as if they would come to our meetings, saying, “My mother used to worship the Old Ones. I would I could go myself.”
To such as these, ever deny all knowledge.
But to others, ever say, “‘Tis foolish men talk of witches flying through the air. To do so they must be as light as thistledown. And men say that witches all be blear-eyed old crones, so what pleasure can there be at a witch meeting such as folks talk on ?”
And say, “Many wise men now say there be no such creatures.”
Ever make it jest) and in some future time perhaps, the persecution may die and we may worship our gods in safety again.
Let us all pray for that happy day.
May the blessings of the Goddess and God be on all who keep these Laws which are ordained.

Valuables

If the craft hath any appanage, let all guard it and help to keep it clear and good for the craft.
And let all justly guard all monies of the craft.
And if any Brother truly wrought it, ’tis right they have their pay, an it be just. An this be not taking money for the art, but for good and honest work.
And even the Christians say, “The labourer is worthy of his hire,” but if any Brother work willingly for the good of the craft without pay, ’tis but to their greater honour. So be it ordained.

Quarrels

If there be any dispute or quarrel among the Brethren, the High Priestess shall straightly convene the Elders and inquire into the matter, and they shall hear both sides, first alone and then ogether.
And they shall decide justly, not favouring one side or the other.
Ever recognising there be people who can never agree to work under others.
But at the same time, there be some people who cannot rule justly.
To those who must ever be chief, there is one answer.
“‘Void the Coven or seek another one, or make a Coven of your own, taking with you those who will go.”
To those who cannot rule justly, the answer be, “Those who cannot bear your rule will leave you.”
For none may come to meetings with those with whom they are at variance.
So, an either cannot agree, get hence, for the craft must ever survive. So be it ordained.

Curses

In the olden days when we had power, we could use the art against any who ill-treated the Brotherhood. But in these evil days we must not do so. For our enemies have devised a burning pit of everlasting fire into which they say their god casteth all the people who worship him, except it be the very few who are released by their priest’s spells and masses. And this be chiefly by giving monies and rich gifts to receive his favour for their great god is ever in need of money.
But as our gods need our aid to make fertility for man and crops, so is the god of the Christians ever in need of man’s help to search out and destroy us. Their priests ever tell them that any who get our help are damned to this hell forever, so men be mad with the terror of it.
But they make men believe that they may escape this hell if they give victims to the tormentors. So for this reason all be forever spying, thinking, “An I can catch but one of these Wicca, I will escape from this fiery pit.”
So for this reason we have our hidels, and men searching long and not finding, say, “There be none, or if there be, they be in a far country.”
But when one of our oppressors die, or even be sick, ever is the cry, “This be witches’ malice”, and the hunt is up again. And though they slay ten of their own to one of ours, still they care not. They have countless thousands.
While we are few indeed. So be it ordained.
That none shall use the art in any way to do ill to any.
However much they may injure us, harm none. And nowtimes many believe we exist not.
That this Law shall ever continue to help us in our plight, no one, however great an injury or injustice they receive, may use the art in any way to do ill, or harm any. But they may, after great consultations with all, use the art to restrain Christians from harming us Brothers, but only to constrain them and never to punish.
To this end men will say, “Such a one is a mighty searcher out, and a persecutor of old women whom they deemeth to be witches, and none hath done him harm, so it be proof that they cannot or more truly there be none.”
For all know full well that so many folk have died because someone had a grudge against them, or were persecuted because they had money or goods to sieze, or because they had none to bribe the searchers. And many have died because they were scolding old women. So much that men now say that only old women are witches.
And this be to our advantage and turns suspicion away from us.
In England and Scotland ’tis now many a year since a witch hath died the death. But any misuse of the power might raise the persecution again.
So never break this Law, however much you are tempted, and never consent to its being broken in the least.
If you know it is being broken, you must work strongly against it.
And any High Priestess or High Priest who consents to its breach must immediately be deposed for ’tis the blood of the Brethren they endanger.
Do good, an it be safe, and only if it be safe.
And keep strictly to the Old Law.

Payment

Never accept money for the use of the art, for money ever smeareth the taker. ‘Tis sorcerors and conjurers and the priests of the Christians who ever accept money for the use of their arts. And they sell pardons to let men ascape from their sins.
Be not as these. If you accept no money, you will be free from temptation to use the art for evil causes.
All may use the art for their own advantage or for the advantage of the craft only if you are sure you harm none.
But ever let the Coven debate this at length. Only if all are satisfied that none may be harmed, may the art be used.
If it is not possible to achieve your ends one way, perchance the aim may be achieved by acting in a different way so as to harm none. MAY THE CURSE OF THE GODDESS BE ON ANY WHO BREAKETH THIS LAW. So be it ordained.
‘Tis judged lawful if ever any of the craft need a house or land and none will sell, to incline the owner’s mind so as to be willing to sell, provided it harmeth him not in any way and the full price is paid without haggling.
Never bargain or cheapen anything whilst you buy by the art. So be it ordained.

Law of the Land

“Tis the Old Law and the most important of all laws, that no one may do anything which will endanger any of the craft, or bring them into contact with the law of the land or any persecutors.
In any dispute between Brethren, no one may invoke any laws but those of the craft.
Or any tribunal but that of the Priestess, Priest and Elders.

Discussion of Witchcraft

It is not forbidden to say as Christians do, “There be witchcraft in the land,” because our oppressors of old make it a heresy not to believe in witchcraft and so a crime to deny it which thereby puts you under suspicion.
But ever say, “I know not of it here, perchance there may be but afar off, I know not where.”
But ever speak of them as old crones, consorting with the devil and riding through the air.
And ever say, “But how may many ride the air if they be not as light as thistledown.”
But the curse of the Goddess be on any who cast suspicion on any of the Brotherhood.
Or who speak of any real meeting-place or where they bide.

Wortcunning

Let the craft keep books with the names of all herbs which are good, and all cures so all may learn.
But keep another book with all the Bales and Apies and let only the Elders and other trustworthy people have this knowledge. So be it ordained.
And may the blessings of the gods be on all who keep these Laws, and the curses of both the God and the Goddess be on all who break them.

Use of the Art

Remember the art is the secret of the gods and may only be used in earnest and never for show or vainglory.
Magicians and Christians may taunt us saying, “You have no power, show us your power. Do magic before our eyes, then only will we believe,” seeking to cause us to betray the art before them.
Heed them not, for the art is holy and may only be used in need, and the curse of the gods be on any who break this Law.

Resignations

It ever be the way with women and with men also, that they ever seek new love.
Nor should we reprove them for this.
But it may be found a disadvantage to the craft.
And so many a time it has happened that a High Priest or a High Priestess, impelled by love, hath departed with their love. That is, they left the Coven.
Now if the High Priestess wishes to resign, she may do so in full Coven.
And this resignation is valid.
But if they should run off without resigning, who may know if they may not return in a few months?
So the Law is, if a High Priestess leaves her Coven, she be taken back and all be as before.
Meanwhile, if she has a deputy, that deputy shall act as High Priestess for as long as the High Priestess is away.
If she returns not at the end of a year and a day, then shall the Coven elect a new High Priestess,
Unless there is a good reason to the contrary.
The person who has done the work should reap the benefit of the reward. If somebody else is elected, the deputy is made maiden and deputy of the High Priestess.

Training

It has been found that practicing the art doth cause a fondness between aspirant and tutor, and it is the cause of better results if this be so.
And if for any reason this be undesireable, it can easily be avoided by both persons from the outset firmly resolving in their minds to be as brother and sister or parent and child.
And it is for this reason that a man may be taught only by a woman and a woman by a man, and women and women should not attempt these practices together. So be it ordained.

Punishment

Order and discipline must be kept.
A High Priestess or a High Priest may, and should, punish all faults.
To this end all the craft must receive correction willingly.
All properly prepared, the culprit kneeling should be told his fault and his sentence pronounced.
Punishment should be followed by something amusing.
The culprit must acknowledge the justice of the punishment by kissing the hand on receiving sentence and again thanking for punishment received. So be it ordained.
